Fun at the Highland Gathering

There is an absolute hive of activity down at Hutchison park in Amanzimtoti on this sunny Saturday, April 30.

FINALLY the day has come, after three years postponed by Covid-19 and almost left dried out by the storm, but today is the 59th Highland Gathering.

There is an absolute hive of activity down at Hutchison park in Amanzimtoti on this sunny Saturday, April 30, as Amanzimtoti Lions host the 59th annual Highland Gathering.
Scottish bands from across the county competing on the green grass of the upper south coast surrounded by flea market stalls, food and beverage that include biltong, lamb rolls, boerie rolls, vetkoek, loaded chips, donuts, koeksisters and alcohol.
Touch sides with estate agents while licking an Italian ice cream or spectate the classic cars while sipping an Espresso. There is inflatables and a merry-go-round or pony ride for the little ones.
Have your photo taken with a real live rickshaw from 12:00 to 16:00. There is are arena events that include Zulu, Indian, Scottish dancers, drums and more. There is a tea garden and beauty pageant. “Can you afford not to be part of this absolutely exciting event? of course not. So count the children, draw some cash and come on down. Come on, you know it’s the right thing to do,” said ward 97 councillor, André Beetge.
The mass band will be marching at 16:00.
