Pat Henry, who has worked in Doonside, said for 10 years the number of vacant shops in the area made her wonder if the addition of another shopping centre will improve the area economically.

“Just take a drive down Rockview Road and see for yourself. A lot of shops that were thriving only a few years ago have shut down and left. I’m scared of what is going to happen to us when this shopping centre opens. What’s going to happen to the little foot traffic we have left?” asked Pat.

Deshnie Chetty, who works in Seadoone Mall, said she feels the addition of another retail centre will create employment opportunities and a variety of shops and services for shoppers.

“There’ll be no need for people in Doonside and the surrounds to travel far for things they’ll be able to buy locally. Hopefully they will also improve the roads as well,” said Deshnie.

The whole complex will be 13 672m² in size and will be home to 32 stores.
