The 35-year-old man, who is believed to have been involved in the taxi industry, was killed after a car chase along Andrew Zondo Road. SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the deceased ran into a store where he was shot multiple times by his assailants before they fled the scene. “He sustained multiple gunshots to the head and body and was declared dead on the scene. The motive for the attack is unknown and investigations are still underway,” said Mbele.

Take n Pay said staff and customers were not injured during the incident.

“We would like to thank you for your swift response in the time of an unforeseen crisis. This was an external altercation that was brought into our store and the matter is being investigated by SAPS,” read the statement from Take n Pay Superstore.

Emer-G-Med’s spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen, said that when paramedics arrived, the victim was already dead.

“His grey Volkswagen hatchback was found nearby, peppered with high caliber bullets. Another person was rushed to hospital privately,” said van Reenen.

The motive for the shooting is unclear and SAPS will be investigating.
