Toti athletes kick-off 2022

The Amanzimtoti Athletic Club has started the year with a bang.

AMANZIMTOTI Athletic Club athletes took part in the Rocky Bay Trailrun in Park Rynie on Sunday, January 9, where they did well.
The scenic trail meanders through sugarcane plantations and streams.

This was the second event in the Coastal Series of races and is divided into 6km, 12km, and 19km categories. Entrants in the 6km and 12km categories can enter as either runners or walkers.

Amanzimtoti Athletic Club member, Kim Anderson, was the winner of the women’s 19km race with a time of 01:35:09 and finished seventh overall. The next race in the series is the Zululami Seaton Trailrun on Sunday, January 16. On Wednesday, January 5, the club held a time trial run which was divided into a 4km run/ walk and 8km run/walk. Nzuzo Khomo, won the 4km run in 13:26, and Ann Waterson came first in the 4km walk in 36:27. In the 8km races, Deon Lodder came fi rst in the running race clocking 55:13 and Vusi Mnyandu was the first walker at the finish line in 32:48.

The club has also announced that it will be assisting Army Saints with their Amanzimtoti River clean-up initiative this year. The reason for this is to help preserve the river because it also passes through the sports grounds. Further announcements will be made regarding days of the clean-up.
