#50YearsAgo Where the SUN is now

The SUN's office is a hub of activity where the community's favourite newspaper is produced.

HALF a century ago, the South Coast SUN published its first newspaper and since then, the paper has evolved into a fully-fledged, award winning paper.

Many stories have been told and former staff members fondly remember working into the early hours of the morning to get the paper ready for print. There were some difficult times, but these were outweighed by all the happy times!

Many also remember not wanting to be alone in the office at night, claiming that something made them feel “uncomfortable”.

Although renovations were recently done at the premises, the office has not lost its ascetic appeal and it remains a shining light in the community.

The office received a new coat of paint inside and out, and the back area, which was host to rubble and overgrown vegetation, made way for a parking area for the journalists. Security has been upgraded and the boundary fence reinforced.

The newspaper has evolved in more ways than one. Not only has it gone digital with local, national and international news, it continues to bring community news straight to your doorstep.

The South Coast SUN is an award winning paper, having won many Caxton Excellence awards throughout the years, and recently winning the Newspaper of the Year and Best Front Pages of the Year award at the Forum for Community Journalist (FCJ) Awards.
