Former Kingsburgh councillor passes on

Gladstone Goosen lived Amanzimtoti for 53 years.

A LONG-STANDING Amanzimtoti resident, Gladstone Goosen passed away on October 31 at the age of 87.

Nicknamed ‘Kom-Kom’, as he was always in a hurry to get things done, Goosen was born in Port Elizabeth. After he married his wife, Elena, they settled in the then Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), and relocated to South Africa in 1962, where they settled in the Northern Cape.

There, he established a construction company, Noord Kaap Bouers, which undertook a number of monumental projects in Vryburg, Kathu and Kuruman.

During this time, Gladstone attained his twin engine pilot’s licence with night rating and would later fly microlights.

In 1968 the family, which now consisted of three children, Johnny, the late Deon, and Vanessa, relocated to Amanzimtoti. Goosen continued with various construction work.

He also served as a councillor in the former Kingsburgh Municipality for 14 years in the public works portfolio. He is survived by his wife Elena, his son, Johnny and daughter, Vanessa, and five grandchildren.
