#50YearsAgo Learners sent home on first day of school

Amanzimtoti Primary School is still situated at the same premises, 27 years later.

AMANZIMTOTI Primary School opened its doors on January 29 1936. As no desks or stock had arrived, the children that were enrolled were sent home.

The first principal in was Mrs KingLees, with two teachers and 29 learners. By 1972, there were over 600 learners attending Amanzimtoti Primary. By 1977, Toti Primary was the biggest primary school in KwaZulu-Natal.

In 1994, the great trek from the Adams Road campus to the old Kuswag Primêre Skool campus in Frost Road took place.

For the first time in many years, the junior primary and senior primary staff could have tea breaks under the same roof.

Amanzimtoti Primary celebrated its 60th anniversary in 1996.
