Wanderers Haven hosts colourful heritage walk

The walk will take place at 11:00 and at noon, hot meals will be distributed.

Wanderers Haven will host a special prayer walk on Friday, September 24.  In honour of Heritage Day, the walk will be hosted from Splash Waterworld through the CBD and will conclude at the Lifegro Centre square where meals will be handed out. The food will be given to all those who are in need and not just the homeless.

“There are people who live next to you who do not have food. This is for everyone. People are hungry,” said co-founder of the organisation, Johnny Swanepoel.

The walk will take place at 11:00 and at noon, hot meals will be distributed.

“We ask the community, companies and anyone who can help to sponsor meals rather than money. It’s a day of prayer and love. We also want residents to dress in their traditional wear. Everyone is welcome. This is also about awareness about the people who need assistance. To see people get food out of a bin is heartbreaking and we want to respond to the call of need.  We cannot do this alone, if we don’t join hands as a community, this will never work. It is really tough out there and people need assistance. Working together with other organisations, we can do this. We can’t save the world, but we can make Toti a better place. Let’s make a positive difference, together. We just want to spread love. One act of kindness can make a huge difference.”

The organisation also runs a charity shop to generate funds and appeals to the community to donate any items that they no longer require. Donations of peanut butter, jam, cereal, pasta, canned goods, milk, sugar, tea and noodles will be much appreciated.
