Operation Bobbi Bear welcomes warm donation

Responding to the call of need was Chas Everitt International Property Group Amanzimtoti Branch. Fifty loaves of bread were donated to the organisation to ensure that the little ones’ tummies are full and happy on Wednesday, 30 June.

Since the start of lockdown, Operation Bobbi Bear has seen a major increase in child abuse cases throughout the community. And, while its cases have increased there has been a notable decrease in donations to the organisation.

“People are taking a lot of stress at the moment and parents are at home, there’s no money for food or living regular lives. Abuse cases have risen rapidly compare to before the pandemic to now, we have seen an 80% rise in cases. At this time it’s been absolutely crazy,” said Operation Bobbi Bear’s project coordinator, Michelle Jacobs.  “Since Covid-19 started, a lot of companies and people have taken a major strain, but non-government organisations have taken the biggest knock.  We rely solely on donations from the community, so for us, we have to feed children three times a day. This is why it is so important to us. All of our donations have pretty much come to a stop since lockdown was implemented. We try and feed these little children all day long plus snacks and sandwiches for school. Food is our gold. We rely just on our community to get by with our food.”

“This donation has been one of the biggest blessings especially now during this time,” said Michelle.

The initiative was organised by Ndabe Manzi, who is an intern agent a Chas Everitt International Property Group Amanzimtoti.

“To sell property we need to uplift the community. I have known Operation Bobbi Bear my whole childhood and it’s a wonderful organisation. I am well aware of the strain they face. As a child, I used to give back to the organisation through my school. It’s always good to give back to organisations that are uplifting lives. This organisation saves children and in turn, these children become wonderful members of the community. The pandemic has created a huge strain for organisations but the property market has been doing great.”

The bread project will continue for as long as possible.

“We have donated the first 50 loaves and we will be in touch with management to find out what other donations the organisation may need.”

The organisation appeals to the public for the following items: Any second-hand clothes, shoes, linen and towels for all ages, non-perishable food items, sanitary pads, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, deodorants, basic medical stock, Dettol or Savlon, antibacterial cream, shampoo, nappies, baby toiletries.  Financial support will also be gladly accepted.  To help Operation Bobbi Bear, call 031 903 2424, email bobbibear@lantic.net or use the following bank details to donate: Bobbi Bear Fund, FNB Amanzimtoti, account number: 62018619471, branch code: 250655.
