Sapphire Coast Tourism highlights achievements

As part of the programme, the community tourism organisation presented the majority of achievements made completed from July last year to date.

Sapphire Coast Tourism (SCT) participated in the Durban Tourism Workshop which took place on Monday, 3 May at Coastal Lounge in Umgababa.

The purpose of the workshop was to reintroduce the concept of SCT, the community tourism organisation, its mandate, structure and functions to local leadership. As part of the programme, the community tourism organisation presented the majority of achievements made completed from July last year to date.

“Our achievements included the continuity of mural projects to beautify the region and the Amanzimtoti Taxi Rank has created temporary employment for three waste ambassadors,” said the organisation’s Romy Wenzel. “They assist by cleaning up the taxi rank, CBD, beach and waterways while ensuring all recyclable products are separated to reduce landfill waste. They also engage with commuters, informal traders and local businesses to protect the environment by not littering. This project has been sponsored by Polyco and managed by Clean Surf Project and supported by SCT.”

The organisation has also participated in International Coastal Clean-Up Day as well as the unveiling of the photo frame and hoisting of the Blue Flag at Amanzimtoti Main Beach. Successful holiday campaigns such as the Sapphire Sizzling Summer 2020 as well as the Easter Holiday Programme 2021 was also hosted by the organisation.

“We have compiled a virtual tour showcasing attractions and things to do within the region and participated in Durban Tourism’s Health and Safety Campaign led by BDO Consulting. We have installed 10 educational anti-litter signs at Amanzimtoti Main Beach, Warnadoone and Winklespruit Beach, a joint initiative supported by Polyco, Clean Surf Project and SCT. Special thanks to all ward councillors and Durban Tourism.”

The SCT committee is busy preparing the update of its A5 brochure. Registered members are required to submit high-resolution artwork by Wednesday, 12 May to info@sapphirecoasttourism.co.za in order to qualify for a complimentary ad, which forms part of the COVID-19 Relief Campaign.
