Loads of fun expected at Illovo Beach Neighbourhood Watch’s market day

Aside from raising funds for the organisation, the market day also celebrates the group's first birthday.

The Illovo Beach Neighbourhood Watch group is eager to welcome the public to its market day on Saturday, 8 May.  Several businesses have come on board to support the initiative and it promises to be a fun-filled day for all. The purpose of the day is to raise funds for the watch group to have security cameras installed in the area.

“We invite the public to come forward and enjoy the many stalls and activities that we have to offer. A jumping castle and loads of goodies will be on display on the day. There is something for everyone in the family,” said patrol member, Ruth Majola.

Aside from raising funds for the organisation, the market day also celebrates the group’s first birthday.

“A group of concerned residents all came together to form this group during lockdown last year. During this time, there were a lot of cases of crime in the area and we needed to intervene.  “For the past six months, we have noticed a visible decrease in the crime levels and we are incredibly proud of that.”

The cameras will allow the group to keep the levels of crime at a low rate.

“The cameras will also allow us to identify suspects and provide better descriptions to police members.  “A big thank you to all of the businesses who have supported this initiative.”

The fun day will take place at the Illovo Beach Park from 9am to 2pm.
