Hijacking suspect shot and killed in Illovo

A high-speed chase ensued where members came under gunfire from the suspects.

A hijacking suspected was shot and killed following a high-speed chase with members of ET Rapid Response on Sunday, 28 February.

“A vehicle was circulated that had just been hijacked at gunpoint in Park Rynie. Our tactical response team mobilised immediately. Out team intercepted the hijacked vehicle in the Umgababa area,” said managing member, Tony Lokker.

A high-speed chase ensued where members came under gunfire from the suspects.

“Our members defended themselves and returned fire during the chase. The suspects went up the R603 and crashed into other motorists in the process. Our members stopped the vehicle near Illovo township while exchanging gunfire with the suspects. One suspect was fatality wounded and was declared deceased on the scene. The second suspect managed to escape. No members were injured.   Well done team. Your courage under the most severe pressure is exemplary.”
