4 Paws and a Tale Rescue in need of assistance

The volunteer-based organisation provides ongoing food and care for abused and neglected animals in shelters as well as strays.

For many organisations fundraising activities have either been scaled down or cancelled completely through lockdown and financial restrictions.  For animal care organisation, 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue, the cancellation of its annual Valentine’s fundraiser means that hundreds of animals are in dire need of food donations, or they risk starvation.

“This past year has been incredibly difficult as there are more cases of neglected animals because people are facing unbearable financial burdens,” said the organisation’s Nicky Koekemoer.  This is compounded by the fact that donations have been limited, and we’ve also taken on the feeding of hungry families who have been badly affected by the pandemic.”

The volunteer-based organisation provides ongoing food and care for abused and neglected animals in shelters as well as strays. The team, which works in the KZN South Coast area, is currently feeding around 250 dogs several days of the week. They are also committed to preventing animal abuse while re-homing dogs and cats to loving homes around the province.

“With February being the month of love, we are calling on the public to open their hearts by donating food that will save the lives of these truly vulnerable animals. We understand many are struggling right now, which is why even the smallest donation is incredibly welcome at this time.”

To assist the organisation, consider donating dry or canned dog or cat food, blankets, old towels, linen and kennels which make for a much more comfortable sleeping area and provide shelter on sunny and rainy days for stray and township dogs. Flea or tick medication can also be dropped off at the Tale End Charity Shop in Thira Village situated at 142 Scott Street, Scottburgh; or Seadoone Vet in Amanzimtoti. Visitors can also support the cause by buying any range of thrift items from the shop as well or donating previously loved items in good condition to the shop. Opening times are 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12pm every Saturday.  Sponsorships are also welcome to assist the organisation cover medical and food bills, petrol and airtime used for home visits as well as vaccinations.  To donate, use the following bank details: FNB Scottburgh, 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue, Account number: 62370111991, Branch code: 220227.  For more information on the organisation, visit www.4pawsandatalerescue.co.za or contact Nicky on 084-626-5508 or info@4pawsandatalerescue.co.za.
