Amanzimtoti Warhammer Club on hold

In a game of Warhammer, players enact battles using miniature models of warriors and fighting vehicles. The playing area is a tabletop model of a battlefield, comprising models of buildings, hills, trees, and other terrain features.

All systems are on hold at the Amanzimtoti Warhammer Club.  The organisation was officially created last year to celebrate the exciting and unique world that the game offers. There are currently 30 members in the club, however, due to the rising Covid-19 cases, all playing sessions have been put on hold.

“I always wanted to have a club to interact with other Warhammer enthusiasts because playing has always been my hobby. The game consists of people painting, socialising and playing, unfortunately, all of this has been put on hold. It is frustrating,” said the founder of the organisation, Carl Coetzee.  “The painting aspect can be done individually, but we are unable to meet and play games. We are finding alternatives to play through Facebook groups and Zoom calls where we could chat about information surrounding Warhammer.”

In a game of Warhammer, players enact battles using miniature models of warriors and fighting vehicles. The playing area is a tabletop model of a battlefield, comprising models of buildings, hills, trees, and other terrain features. Each player takes turns to move their model warriors around the battlefield and pretend that they are fighting their opponent’s warriors. These fights are resolved using dice and simple arithmetic.  The game has two versions – Warhammer 40k, which is a sci-fi universe and Age of Sigmar.

“You can play one-on-one or in teams of how many players you have. With lockdown, there have been no tournaments, but hobby shops usually stage them. I’m hoping to get local venues to offer to host painting parties and tournaments. Other fans of the game are encouraged to join the club and we hopefully play once lockdown regulations and Covid-19 cases ease.”

Carl has started a Facebook page ‘Amanzimtoti Warhammer Club’ where he shares fascinating information and content surrounding the game.  For more information, contact him on 083-629-0862 (WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber and Signal).
