Community tourism organisation embellishes Amanzimtoti

Proposed projects included a murual at Hoot Bridge, view point at the Amanzimtoti Country Club, welcome signage and an upgrade to SCT website.

Members of Sapphire Coast Tourism were kept busy beautifying the community with several projects in and around Amanzimtoti.  The underwater world mural which can be viewed at the Umkomaas Launch Site has been completed. It was a challenging project due to weather and logistical conditions.

“Special thanks to local mural artist, Chrsitine Andrews, for once again showing off her incredible talent as well as to the Umkomaas Fire Brigade, Seabreeze Ebuild, Goscor Access Solutions, Amanzimtoti Beach Rest Guesthouse, Cllr André Beetge and Ethekwini Municipality for supporting this worthy initiative.”

Five out of six SCT map boards, positioned at various key points have been updated accordingly displaying all 2020/ 2021 registered members.

“Thumbs up to Sopro for a friendly and professional service received. While the committee was busy putting plans in place with regards to the Sapphire Sizzling Summer Holiday Program 2020, immense adjustments had to be made due to Covid-19 regulations.  We thank every member as well as local businesses for offering ongoing support with regards to beach activations within the past few years. This time around, focus was put on encouraging beach goers to wear masks, ensure social distancing as well as wash hands and sanitise regularly. “Thank you to DJ Fluffy, Funland/ Dolphin Bowl, MTN, Smartcall, Illovo Nursery for their participation and sponsorship as well as the team from the KZN Liquor Authority that promoted the don’t drink and swim campaign before the festive season.”

There was also a surprise visit from Santa Claus supported by Clean Surf Project. The programme was welcomed by visitors.  There are several more projects in the pipelines as well. These proposed projects included
a murual at Hoot Bridge, view point at the Amanzimtoti Country Club, welcome signage and an upgrade to SCT website.

“The Hoot Bridge wall was maintained about three years ago and is in dire need of a fresh, new look to brighten up the area as well as to welcome visitors to our treasured coastline.  Beautiful views can be enjoyed overlooking the Indian Ocean as well as the busy industrial hub of Prospecton which contributes to the business accommodation sector all year round.  The R102 Scottburgh off ramp will welcome visitors who are entering the Sapphire Coast Region from the South. The website to provide more detailed information about the region as well as to ensure that all member’s products and services are listed and exposed to not only residents, even more so travellers from far and wide.”

The eThekwini Covid-19 rates relief programme for all SCT registered accommodation has been extended to June 2021. For more information on how to apply, call 031-324-5000.
