Beach cleansing equipment heads to Amanzimtoti shores

The first test run of the beach cleaning equipment was a tremendous success. The unimog and beach rake was tested at Amanzimtoti Main Beach by the CSP team who was accompanied by Jace Govender of eThekwini Municipality beach management. The official launch will take place on Saturday, 19 September in celebration of International Coastal Clean Up Day.

For those who are concerned about dunes being destroyed by the machine, it’s not of concern as we won’t be running equipment in such areas. The equipment will also assist with the Blue Flag application as quality of sand and cleanliness plays a role as well.”

“Many thanks to Danie le Roux, the unimog specialist who travelled all the way from Sabie to assist the CSP team in getting the equipment connected. Tony Bertasso has offered his generous support and knowledge, and Sarel Posthunus will adjust the hydraulics for the beach rake in order for the machine to function properly. This will help by filtering the sand and removing small pieces of plastic that are difficult to be picked up by hand. In addition, we would like to express our gratitude to Douw Steyn of Plastics SA and Jacques Lightfoot for supporting this great initiative, and DSV as well as Coca Cola Beverages for their generous sponsorship that enabled us to obtain the much-needed machinery to fight marine plastic pollution,” she added.
