Amanzimtoti rider revved to race
We have a track on a private farm, so I have managed to ride during lockdown.
Pumped from tackling his first Roof of Africa in December, Amanzimtoti motocross rider Cayden Purchase was dismayed by the start of the 2020 season being postponed.
He finished second in the KZN Hare-scramble Championship and third in the National Enduro Championship last season, and was aiming for first in both championships this year.
“I was very disappointed, because I was just getting into racing and then it stopped. I’m very keen to start racing again. We are still waiting to hear from Motorsport South Africa (when we will start).
“I think they will continue with the KZN Hare-scramble Championship and National Enduro Championship with the rounds to date when racing does finally take place and there will be some double headers.”

The young speedster will line up in Lesotho again if the Roof of Africa does take place at the end of the year.
“We have a track on a private farm, so I have managed to ride during lockdown. With less rounds in the championships (when racing does get underway), it will make it more difficult for me to win both this year, because there is less leeway if you have a bad round.”
The Scottburgh High School Grade 11 learner returned to school on Monday, 6 July. “We got schoolwork via groups during the lockdown, so I have kept up to date. I also kept busy playing Xbox and looking after our puppies.”
