Amanzimtoti response officers in shoot-out

A chase ensued and the suspects fired at the officers, who returned fire, causing the vehicle to crash.

ET officers were involved in a shoot-out with house robbery suspects in KwaMakhutha on Wednesday night, 6 May.
The TRT responded to a circulation of a wanted vehicle taken in a house robbery, where a victim was held up at his house in Mkakazini, in the Adam’s Mission area, and taken to an ATM to withdraw money from his account. The suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle.

“Our TRT went to known spots in KwaMakutha, where vehicles get stripped to look for the suspects. It was not long before our members came across the wanted VW Polo on Pistol Mpanza Road.”

A chase ensued and the suspects fired at the officers, who returned fire, causing the vehicle to crash. The suspects fled on foot, still shooting. Officers chasing them down and returned fire, fatally wounding one. The remaining suspects disappeared in the darkness.

The vehicle was recovered with stolen goods, a 9mm pistol, bush knife and large dagger. The officer’s vehicle sustained two gunshots, with no officers injured. “Thanks to all responders, SAPS, Metro Police K9 unit and other private security members, who came to assist our boys in their hour of need.”

Two stolen vehicles were recovered by officers on Sunday night, 3 May after a TRT was alerted to an activation of a Toyota Corolla which was taken in a house robbery in Adams Mission.

“The vehicle was signalling in the Lovu Township area and our TRT recovered the vehicle, along with a Hyundai I20, which was also confirmed to be taken in the same robbery. We were assisted by members of the CCPO, the tracking company, Blue Security and SAPS flying squad.” Both vehicles were taken to the pound for further investigation.
