Kuswag rugby captain longs for season

Kiehan is excited to begin the season again, once the lockdown is over.

KUSWAG Skool’s budding rugby star, 14-year-old Kiehan Hatting, is a delight to watch on the field as he sprints through every obstacle on his way to success.

The Grade 8 learner was overjoyed to begin the season in February, after he was elected as captain for the second time in a row. Much to his dismay, the rugby season came to a grinding halt due to the coronavirus pandemic. This however, it didn’t stop his passion for the sport. He still manages to enjoy practicing while at home. The young lad was captivated by the sport after watching his older brothers and father play. He began playing when he was in Grade 1, and some of the highlights for him has been winning the Lords & Legends Nite Series and participating in the school’s sports week.

The youngster said, “These were my favourite sport events, because I won the whole series. We also beat Hillcrest Primary School, which was one of our toughest opponents. Rugby toughened me up and there was a lot I had to overcome, but it was worth it.”

Kiehan is excited to begin the season again, once the lockdown is over.

“I mostly train at school and I would attend kicking practice. I am fortunate to have a very active and sporty family. However, the lockdown has affected my training schedule and it is definitely not what I expected from this year, but we should look at it in a positive way though.”

Once the lockdown is over, he hopes to spend time with friends and get back on the field.
