[WATCH] Little musician creates smiles in Amanzimtoti

The little musician was inspired to create the song out of sheer boredom, without realising that it would help lift the spirits of those who need it the most.

Finding a silver lining during the lockdown is a daunting task for many of us. However, 10-year-old Cruz Reynolds is using this time to nurture his talent, while adding smiles to faces around the community.

The Amanzimtoti Primary School learner was captured in a video that was shared on social media.  In the video, he can be seen playing the guitar while belting out a soothing and relaxing song titled, A Song About Quarantine.  The little musician was inspired to create the song out of sheer boredom, without realising that it would help lift the spirits of those who need it the most.

The song is an adaptation of Sweet Child O’ Mine that was originally performed by a rock band, Guns n’ Roses.

“This is the only song I know how to play on the guitar at the moment because it is one of my favourites.  I tried the lyrics and they matched well with the melody.  The quarantine has made me miss school, my friends and my teachers.  I think that the video being shared on social media is really cool and exciting.  More children should also spend this time practising their hobbies,”  said the talented youngster.

Since he was a toddler, Cruz loved playing with his toy guitars and asked his parents for a real one.  He was later gifted a guitar on his seventh birthday and has been attending classes ever since.

“I cannot wait to go back to school and start doing all of my hobbies again.  I especially miss swimming and playing sport and surfing. I hope that all of my friends and teachers are all safe and healthy at home,” added the Grade 4 learner.

Cruz hopes to become an architect in the future.  His favourite subjects in school are math and music.
