Edu Paw says thank you

Classes would not be possible without the help and love from dedicated volunteers and sponsors who go beyond the call of duty to assist the little learners and their dogs.

Graduation day for the first Edu Paw class of the year is approaching and will take place on Saturday, 14 March.
There are four classes held for the year, during which 12 children are taken on an eight-week canine care programme. Every aspect of proper canine care is covered during the weekly classes at the SPCA Amanzimtoti on a Saturday morning from 9am until 11.30am.

However, classes would not be possible without the help and love from dedicated volunteers and sponsors who go beyond the call of duty to assist the little learners and their dogs.

Founder of the organisation, Cathy Keegan said we could not accomplish any of this without the support of wonderful, kind and generous people. “It’s a busy week for volunteer Janet Ghersie as she takes charge of sorting out gifts for all the class five dogs coming to graduation day this Saturday as well as preparing treats for the children’s graduation party. In every class, we have one or two learners who really stand out in respect for loving and caring for the welfare of their dogs, also for full attendance. This learner receives an additional certificate – the Jackie Steyn star pupil award. We also like to give them a special gift. We are so grateful to Rennie Maredith from Feel Good Funding for donating T-shirts for this purpose.”

Each dog will receive a box full of treats and 1 kg of dog food (the dogs have received food every week for the entire course from Rennie). Cathy also thanked Jackie Salter for the tinned dog food, dog toys as well as providing all these lovely party treats for the children.

”It is so great having an extra pair of hands. A big thank you to Jacques and Juanette Kruger of Dream Photography for coming to Edu Paw to take photos of the kids and dogs on Saturday. On graduation day, each of the children receives a framed photo of themselves and their dog. And always grateful to Janet Ghursie, who works tirelessly behind the scenes of Edu Paw. We would not be where we are today, were it not for her valuable support, guidance and selfless giving. Dr Mayuri Hargovan is an answer to prayer for Edu Paw.  She has offered to visit Edu Paw once a month to check and assess the general condition of our dogs and give us advice. She will also do all the initial vaccinations when the dogs arrive at the programme.”
