Toti United reflects on an excellent year

The club is working towards incorporating professional coaches in the teams to drive more structured development for the players.

Toti United Junior Football Club enjoyed an exciting season of football, filled with success, growth and development in 2019. The club had a total of 166 players, mostly boys, but had a growing number of girls last season. There were 12 teams that participated in the Durban Central Local Football Association (DCFA) league, among over 250 other teams from clubs around Durban.

Toti United’s Senele Goba said, “There were some encouraging results from a tough season. The U15 team placed second in the league’s C Group. Some of the teams who played in the A group, with volunteer coaches and players that were new to football, achieved pleasing results. The U10 team placed fourth after the top teams that run with professional, paid coaches.”

“In addition to skill development and holistic growth of our young talent, the club encourages sportsmanship and collaboration, which was evident in the successful fundraising five-a-side tournament hosted by the club in August. It was massively supported by 80 teams; other teams were turned away due to space limitations. The tournament was filled with lots of fun and exciting results. Although a few of the club’s teams made it to the finals, with the U15 team winning its group. The feedback from the other clubs was that the tournament was well run and the club was very hospitable. We look forward to more exciting fundraising events in the future.”

Five players from the club were selected to represent the association at an Eastern Local Football Association tournament held in Germiston in October.  The U10 team hosted three teams at the Toti United off-season tournament. Teams consisted of Linhill Celtic from Johannesburg and the two DCFA U10 squads which were a selection of top players from all of the association’s Durban clubs. The Toti U10 team won silver medals running up to the DCFA first team. This was testament of the growth that the boys have acquired during the year.  There has been a growing interest from the girls to be part of the club and this is a very exciting opportunity. The club entered a girl’s team in the five-a-side tournament. The club’s girls team has been formed and we look forward to full participation in the 2020 league.

“The club is working towards incorporating professional coaches in the teams to drive more structured development for the players. It will also host a few pre-season friendly games to get players ready to hit the ground running in 2020, which promises to be a year of plenty growth for the young talents of Toti,” she added.
