A moo-moth task for rescue services

TOTI Fire and Rescue Service performed a rescue with a difference when Telkom workers discovered a cow stuck in a ditch at Illovo Beach.

It is believed the beast had been there for five days. When rescue service personnel arrived at the scene, a young bull was trying to break through the fence dividing a stretch of open land and Rehoboth Christian School, scattering the school children who had left classes to watch. Planks were put against the fence and the bull soon lost interest, returning to the cow and keeping the would-be rescuers away.

Skull found

AN ATHLONE Park couple made a grisly find last Monday when their dog carried a human skull into their garden.

Mark and Wendy Bond called the police, who confirmed that the skull was human, but were unable to determine its origin. An area of two square kilometers was searched, but no corpse was found.

Orphans visit Toti

TOTI will play host to 25 orphans from St Martins orphanage on Saturday.

And the main focus of the day will be Toti beach, where the day kicks off with surf education, hosted by Toti lifesaving club and Inyoni Pro’s lifesavers. The children will then have time to enjoy the sea and sand, before going off to RJs for lunch.

Four hour ordeal for driver

A MASSIVE rescue operation was launched last Thursday after a holidaymaker went missing while diving off Aliwal Shoal.

David Smiddy, 39, of Sandton, spent over four hours in the sea after he surfaced from a dive and was carried away from the diving boat by strong currents. A qualified diver, Smiddy has 35 dives to his credit. He was on holiday with his wife Lauren and two sons, Matthew and Michael, and is described as a strong swimmer.
