Help to keep Amanzimtoti beaches clean this holiday season

We are trying to recycle as much waste as possible.

In honour of World Kindness Day on Wednesday, 13 November, ATKV Natalia invited members of the Clean Surf Project (CSP) for a much-needed break at its premises. Denzil van der Westhuizen, Romy Wenzel and Candice Harding were offered an overnight stay at the resort and spoilt with a scrumptious breakfast before they were presented with a R1 500 donation to continue their work.

“CSP does such good work in the community. We have joined forces with them to do presentations to visiting schools, followed by a clean-up of the beach,” said ATKV marketer, Phillip du Plessis. “It is astounding the amount of litter on our beaches and CSP is a good project for us to be a part of. We appreciate all the good work they are doing and we hope they will continue. That is why we decided to give them a cash donation.”

CSP has educated a total of 1 306 children who visited the resort between April and October, removing 1 708kg of litter, in partnership with Outdoor Environmental Education Africa, ATKV Natalia and Sapphire Coast Tourism (SCT).

“Each visit consisted of a beach clean-up at Illovo Beach, heading either north or south, depending on where most litter was to be collected, followed by an informative presentation about marine plastic pollution and it’s devastating impact on marine as well as human life,” said Romy of CSP and chairman of SCT.

ATKV Natalia also donated its old dolphin mascot to CSP, to be used for educational school and public presentations, such as awareness programmes about plastic marine pollution, throughout the busy holiday season.

“Many thanks to MMKH Recycling, based at the resort, for removing all litter collected after each and every clean-up. We are trying to recycle as much waste as possible, to prevent valuable rubbish having to go to a landfill site unnecessarily.

“We look forward to being a part of the resort’s upcoming holiday programme, as education is the key to stop plastic pollution. We highly appreciate their hospitality and generosity of a complimentary overnight stay and breakfast, not forgetting to mention the donation received on World Human Kindness Day.”
