Amanzimtoti carjacker shot and arrested

The carjacked vehicle was spotted in Umkomaas and a shootout ensued.

An Amanzimtoti carjacker was injured in a shoot-out with police in Umkomaas on Sunday, 15 September. The vehicle, which was carjacked earlier in the day in Illovo Beach, was recovered.

The two victims were at a well-known braai spot when they were attacked by four suspects. They were robbed of their personal belongings, including bank cards. The suspects demanded their pin codes, which they later used to withdraw cash. They left the scene with the victim’s vehicle and a getaway vehicle.

Police were notified of the robbery and carjacking, and alerted officers at surrounding stations to be on the lookout for the suspects. The carjacked vehicle was spotted in Umkomaas a short while later and a shootout ensued between the officers and suspects. One of the suspects was arrested after he was wounded during the shootout and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
