Residents oppose liquor store in Warner Beach

The reasons for the objection is that residents believe that the liquor store is too close to houses and flats.

A group of residents who reside in Warner Beach are hoping to rally the support of others to oppose the opening of a liquor store in the area.  A notice was placed outside the store informing the public that they have until Tuesday, 10 September to present any objections to the KZN Liquor Authority.

The reasons for the objection is that residents believe that the liquor store is too close to houses and flats, there may be a increase in business robbery, a church is located 75 metres away, a primary and preschool is also in the area and there are four other bottle stores in the area.

In an interview with the SUN, Lion Postma who resides in a close proximity of the liquor store, spoke on behalf of the residents and explained that he fears illicit activities will grow in the area.   “This is an area where my wife and I hoped to find peace during our retirement.  Having another bottle store in the area will cause all sorts of problems.  We have conducted walkabouts in the area with the aim of getting more people to oppose the bottle store.  We are aiming for a hundred signatures.”

Objection forms can be collected from Postma and Margie Farren.  If you would like an objection form call, 083-375-3737 or 082-442-7736.

The owner of the liquor store will comment on the matter above once he receives legal advice.
