Police operations underway to curb violent crime

Operations over the weekends are being stepped up as it's a period in which most serious crimes occur.

Several multidisciplinary operations were conducted across the province in a bid to curb violent crimes over the weekend and 112 unlicensed liquor outlets were closed down.  In addition, owners were arrested for selling liquor without a licence.  Operations over the weekends are being stepped up as it is a period in which most serious crimes occur.

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele said, “Police officers in KwaZulu-Natal have intensified operations to clamp down on mushrooming illegal liquor outlets in the province. During these operations police also conducted inspections on licensed premises to check if they are complying with conditions imposed on their licences.”

A large quantity of alcohol was seized by police as evidence and destruction. “Operations targeting the illegal sale of alcohol will be ongoing as many crimes occur in close proximity these unregulated environments,” she said.
