Councillor investigates Satanic ritual concerns
Residents were concerned the findings may be linked to Satanic rituals.
Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge confirmed that an investigation was undertaken after chicken carcasses, remains of goats, dismembered dolls with needles stuck into them, and black and red candles with razor blades inserted into them were found in Ilanda Wilds and on the beach.
Residents were concerned the findings may be linked to Satanic rituals, however Beetge said the items are part of cultural and religious rituals performed in the area. “From Pipeline to the Karridene River about 50 chicken carcasses a month are removed from the beaches. In Isipingo, where there is a higher concentration of people who practise these rituals, this increases to between 500 and 1000 a month,” he said.
Part of the ritual is to throw the dead animal into the sea and these often wash up on neighbouring beaches. “These rituals are performed mostly at night. There is no beach law enforcement after dark and these people are well aware of it and that is why they do it at night.”
