Traditional healer arrested with unlicensed firearms

The traditional healer is suspected to be involved in scamming and robbing people in the Amanzimtoti area.

A 59-year-old KwaMakhutha man was arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and counterfeit money on Monday, 3 June in an intelligence-driven operation between eThekwini Outer South (EOS) cluster members and Durban Public Order Police (POP).

Members recovered a 9mm pistol, 38 homemade revolver, a shot gun, live ammunition and a stack of paper with fake money notes at Emadamini in KwaMakutha area. According to police, the suspect is also a traditional healer, who is believed to be involved in scamming and robbing people in the Amanzimtoti area. The investigation is still ongoing and the suspect could possibly be linked to other cases.

“There is no criminal who will commit crime and get away with it, police officers are working tirelessly to ensure that all these unlicensed firearms are taken off the streets. The safety of our community is our priority and we will ensure that it is maintained,” said acting EOS cluster commander, Brigadier Vukani Mgobhozi.
