Generous donation ensures 4 Paws feels the love at Valentine’s fundraiser

Nicky and Johnny were overwhelmed by this generosity

FOUR Paws and a Tale Rescue Centre certainly was made to feel the love at a Valentine’s fundraiser it hosted in Scottburgh.

Some 120 dog lovers gathered for the Valentine’s dinner dance at the Bell and Anchor in Scottburgh, which was organised by 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue Centre. The food for the evening was generously sponsored by the Bell and Anchor.

The journey of 4 Paws and a Tale is an interesting one. It began officially in 2013 when Nicky and Johnny Koekemoer decided to formalise their work by forming an NPO. They are driven by enthusiasm, energy, passion and a deep love for four-legged friends.

Their mission is to feed, provide shelter, sterilise, vaccinate, rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs. Very early in the mornings before work, they feed 200 abandoned dogs in the Craigieburn area. Over the past six years they have rescued hundreds of dogs and some cats from the most terrible of situations, a very traumatic and uncertain future or even death. They are not only given a new secure home, but also good food and love. Two thrift shops in Amanzimtoti and Scottburgh generate income for food and vet’s bills but this does not allow for growth planning.

In recognition of 4 Paws’ tireless work and dedication to provide hope and a better life for so many dogs, Len and Lorraine Brown presented a cheque to the dog welfare NPO for R200,000.

Nicky and Johnny were overwhelmed by this generosity and it is hoped that other donors, particularly from the business community, will come forward to assist with the endless task of helping those abandoned dogs who have no voice but so much love to give.
