Metro Police officer killed while trying to stop taxi in Amanzimtoti

A Metro Police officer died on Friday night, 11 January after he was struck by a taxi on Arbour Road.

CCTV footage has emerged which shows the officer, who has been identified as Insp Johan Deysel, stepping out onto Arbour Road near the regional mall.

He waves his flashlight and then seemingly steps back towards the verge but doesn’t get to safety before a taxi ploughs into him.

The taxi is seen coming to a halt as a fellow Metro Police officer rushes towards his colleague.

The graphic footage will not be shared on the Sun’s website.

Toti police responded to the scene. It is not known whether the driver was arrested.
