Amanzimtoti road racers deliver high-octane thrills

The four locals came brought home not only podium finishes, but claimed final championship positions as well.

AMANZIMTOTI bikers did the town proud when they achieved great results in the finals of the KZN Road Racing Club Series held at Dezzi Raceway on Saturday, 10 October.

The four locals came brought home not only podium finishes, but claimed final championship positions as well.

“It was an extremely successful day of racing for all of our local boys,” said Carmen Conci. “What a pleasure it was to watch them compete together in the same class. It was a five way toss up in the 300cc class between Nikolai and Jesse Conci of Helluvafast Motorcycles, Malcolm Rudman of Montclair Motorcycles, Hein Etzel of Argotek Egineering and Karl Etzel of Auto Rust Control. The battle was immensely intense as they were fighting for not only the win, but also for the final 2018 300cc Championship.”

300cc class and Toti locals Hein Etzel (#88), Malcolm Rudman (#45), Karl Etzel (#89), Jesse Conci (#14) and Nikolai Conci (#48) give it their all on the Dezzi Raceway track on Saturday, 10 November.

From start to finish, spectators were kept on their toes as the riders came with everything they had and presented a show worth watching.

“The day ended with Hein Etzel taking the win and Nikolai Conci rallying up enough points to take the 2018 300cc Championship home. A similar situation unfolded in the 600cc class as talented Malcolm Rudman made an appearance and rode beautifully to take the win for the day, but it was Nikolai Conci who made the all the right moves on his Band-It Yamaha R6 to take a safe second place and gathered enough points to round up the 2018 600cc Championship,” she explained.

Amanzimtoti’s Jesse Conci (#114) holds on to his well-deserved second place.

“Young Jesse Conci was given an opportunity to make some waves in the 1000cc class and did not disappoint. Being the youngest competitor in the class by quite a bit, Jesse caught all by surprise by storming into second place on his 1998 Honda VTR1000 in his very first race on the bigger league bikes.”

Carmin further explained how the Etzel boys continued the local triumph by carrying the victory through in the Motard Class as well. “Hein and Karl Etzel had an extremely tough race against their fellow competitors, but Hein managed to hold the masses and not only win the day, but also the entire 2018 Motard Championship, and Karl taking fourth place, but second in the championship,” she said.

On the 300cc class podium Malcolm Rudman, Hein Etzel and Nikolai Conci show off their awards.

Carmin explained how KZN has always had a high talent drive, which seems to be very concentrated in Amanzimtoti.

“The boys are all proud to represent our community and would like to say thank you to everyone that has shown support to them throughout the year. Plans for next year are already in action and we will be keen to see them out on the track again,” she said.
