Shedding light on Durban’s street light faults

The municipality remains reliant on its internal teams to attend to faulty streetlights.

Faulty street lights remain a topic of irate discussion, not only in Amanzimtoti’s ward 97 but across the city. “Discussion held with the head of electricity, Maxwell Mthembu indicates the delay in attendance results from the contract not having yet been awarded,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

The municipality awarded the contract to a different supplier from the previous year, which has resulted in an appeal process being launched.

“While the legislative process plays itself out, the municipality remains reliant on its internal teams to attend to faulty streetlights, which, by sheer volume, is proving to be an impossible task. We have tabled our ward specific requirements,” said Cllr Beetge.
