Twini Primary’s top bread tag collectors applauded
This initiative started 10 years ago and has donated over 3,000 wheelchairs.
SUE Martin, representing the Quadriplegic Association of South Africa, was invited in March to give Umbogintwini Primary School in Amanzimtoti, a talk and introduce the scholars to the Bread Tags for Wheelchair project.
The reception she received from teachers and learners alike was incredible and on Friday, 28 September, Sue was invited back to collect their impressive collection. Ndalo Mkhize collected the most bottle tops, a staggering 3,000 and won himself two tickets to uShaka Marine World.
Remember – 200kg of bread tags and 450kg of beverage tops is all that is required to purchase a much-needed wheelchair. By simply collecting (and picking up off the ground while one is walking), you are helping the environment by recycling the plastic that would otherwise remain on the rubbish dump as it does not disintegrate.
You also make a huge difference to the family and friends who support the person who is wheelchair-bound.
