Armed suspect threatens response officer

After grabbing the officer’s firearm, the suspect threatened to kill him.

An armed response officer was injured in a shooting incident in Isipingo last night (Monday, 8 October).

Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios said the officer had parked his vehicle on the corner of Baracuda Drive and Avenue East when a suspect approached him at about 9.55pm.

“The suspect struck up a conversation with the officer and asked him for a lift but the officer refused, saying he was working. The suspect then pulled out a firearm and demanded that the officer hand over his,” said Mathios.

“The officer grabbed hold of the suspect’s firearm and a shot went off that grazed the officer’s forehead as it ricocheted off the roof of the vehicle. The suspect grabbed the officer’s firearm and told him that he would kill him. He fled the scene on foot.”
