Where to take recyclables

The Sun received much negative and disgruntled feedback from the community after the announcement, as residents appear to have eagerly taken up the call to recycle in their homes.

IN light of eThekwini Municipality announcing last week that the orange bag recycling initiative has been discontinued until further notice, the community of Amanzimtoti will benefit from knowing where they can deposit their collected recyclables locally.

The Sun received much negative and disgruntled feedback from the community after the announcement, as residents appear to have eagerly taken up the call to recycle in their homes.

A recommendation came from the city that all household waste be discarded together, while it resolves ongoing issues related to the city-wide recycling programme.

To hear that the good deed that locals have made into a lifestyle habit will no longer be supported by the authorities, has made recyclers question where they can drop off their collections.

Benefits of recycling:

  • You can save money by reusing and repurposing plastic items instead of discarding them.
  • You’ll derive pride from finding an ingenious use for a product which could have been discarded.
  • Cleans up the environment by finding and making useful products from waste.
  • Art projects become proud and useful achievements, and items can be used in DIY projects you undertake with children, thus encouraging them to adopt a recycling mindset.
