Beware of spike in armed robberies, warns CCPO

Don't visit beaches alone and do not wear jewellery or take phones or cameras with you.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) has issued a warning following a spike in armed robberies at Chain Rocks.

“Some have happened on the beach and one that I know of took place on the railway line, where the victim was stabbed in the hand,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

Others have warned of incidents at Winkle Beach.

“Do not go down to the beaches alone and do not wear jewellery or take phones or cameras with you. Be aware of your surroundings and if you are feeling a bit nervous about shady characters approaching you, rather try to run to the road or railway line, or head to the water where you have less chance of them following you,” said Snodey.
