Nature walks lead up to Wagtail Conservation Festival

Those interested in attending this Saturday's nature walk will meet at 7.30am at the entrance to the Burchell's Coucal Eco Trail at Illovo Business Park.

BIRD enthusiasts are invited to take part in a nature walk this Saturday, 28 July at Burchell’s Coucal Eco Trail from 7.30am.

Those interested in attending this Saturday’s nature walk will meet at 7.30am at the entrance to the Burchell’s Coucal Eco Trail at Illovo Business Park.

The walk will be finished by 10am. Take along water, binoculars and comfy walking shoes. The walk will be led by Blessing Majoka. This will be the first of a series of walks and events which will lead up to the Wagtail Conservation Festival which is set to take place on Saturday, 10 November at Amanzimtoti Sports Club.

In the lead-up to the annual conservation festival, Sapphire Coast birders have been asked to help the organisers develop bird lists.

“At the Wagtail Festival we will launch a Sapphire Coast birding route and would like to have bird lists for various places on the route,” said organiser, Adam Cruickshank. “If you bird at the places listed below, send the list of birds that you see to the email address provided. Only list birds that you are 100% sure you have seen – if you are unsure of a bird, rather leave it off.”

The places organisers would like lists for:
1) Umbogavango Nature Reserve
2) Amanzimtoti Bird Park
3) Amanzimtoti Lagoon
4) Amanzimtoti Sports Club trails
5) Illovo River mouth
6) Burchells Coucal Eco Trail
7) The area around Renishaw Chapel.

“If you have any other areas that we should include, let us know. Note that even short bird lists will help contribute to the overall list for an area.”
Email lists to wagtailconservationfestival@gmail.com. Lists can be submitted from now until the beginning of November.

Call 061-485-3625 for information on either the walk or the festival.
