Going away? Board your dogs at Amanzimtoti SPCA

The downside of going away for a night or two, or conversely a couple of weeks, is the dreadful thought that your pampered pooch will be abandoned, lonely and could suffer unnecessary stress and sadness due to your departure.

AMANZIMTOTI SPCA enlightened the community about its boarding facilities which are appropriate for all sizes and breeds of dogs.

Devoted and experienced dog walkers will even take your pooch out, near daily, for a trail walk.

The downside of going away for a night or two, or conversely a couple of weeks, is the dreadful thought that your pampered pooch will be abandoned, lonely and could suffer unnecessary stress and sadness due to your departure. Catering and caring for all personalities of dogs, the SPCA explained that it boards everything from highly energetic to extremely mellow dogs. Unfortunately, the shelter did say it cannot board vicious dogs that do not like strangers or puppies under the age of six months.

“We care for the extremely nervous dogs by providing them with CalmEze,” explained Toti SPCA’s Michelle Hannan.

“The shelter staff can administer medication, whether it be chronic or short-term. If your pet is on a special diet, the SPCA ensures it receives the correct amount of food, as long as you provide it. We have dog walkers who give daily walks to the dogs and flea dips can be provided during their stay or before you collect.”

Toti SPCA provides all the requirements for a comfy stay, including blankets, beds, food and water bowls. Michelle explained that these need not be taken, as the kennels are cleaned daily and items can be misplaced.

“Toti SPCA charges per day, based on the size and breed of the dog. Over the Christmas period our rates are slightly higher than the normal rates for the rest of the year. We also have an annual membership fee of R35 which is charged from April through to March the following year,” Michelle explained.

The SPCA provides the assurance that someone is on the property around the clock to keep an eye on all the animals.
Michelle emphasised the importance of early booking, especially for December, as the shelter reaches its brim in no time. Bookings and payments for the December and January period needs to be done before 31 October.

The shelter also requires full history of the five-in-one vaccinations and rabies which need to be done annually, and needs to be updated 10 days before coming into boarding.
