Grieving police salute Umlazi fallen hero

W/O Phillip Njabulo Linda will be remembered as a "professional and disciplined member who always took the time to smile and stay positive on the job."

Colleagues of a police officer who was shot dead in Isipingo last week have heaped praise on him for his diligence to his work.

W/O Phillip Njabulo Linda (54) from Umlazi detectives was off-duty in the Malukazi area in Isipingo when he was shot dead by a group of armed men.

W/O Linda had 23 years of loyal service in the South African Police Service and to the Umlazi community. His colleagues said he was known to be a policeman committed to removing serious criminals from the Umlazi community and Durban area. He was a professional and thorough investigator who ensured criminals got the maximum sentence.

“He was a policeman who worked more than he rested, said Umlazi SAPS communication officer, Capt Carmen Rhynes. “I always saw him at Umlazi police station at all hours of the evening and morning. He was known by his colleagues as a man who could be depended on. Umlazi SAPS has truly lost a policeman of excellence, as he was one of the top investigators at Umlazi SAPS. The Umlazi community has lost a true hero. We will miss his smile and his positive attitude towards his work. He will never be forgotten.”

Col KD Singh, head of detectives at Umlazi said they have lost one of the best detectives in the SAPS. “He was a colleague who committed himself to solving crimes that seemed unsolvable. He was a professional and disciplined member who always took the time to smile and stay positive on the job.”
