Sapphire Coast bumper beach fun over Easter

Adding to the success of the long weekend was that there were no drowning fatalities recorded anywhere along the Sapphire Coast.

SAPPHIRE Coast Tourism reflected on the Easter weekend holiday and all its festivities as another great success.

Adding to the success of the long weekend was that there were no drowning fatalities recorded anywhere along the Sapphire Coast.

Locals and holidaymakers, young and old, were kept entertained with all the exciting activities which took place over the long weekend.

“Sapphire Coast Tourism is striving to attract as many holidaymakers to visit our coastline during holiday season, hoping for many to return all year round,” said SCT chairman, Romy Wenzel.

“The beach programme entertained young and old, holidaymakers as well as local people, who came down to enjoy the Easter holidays. All in all, it’s about fun time with family and friends while visiting the Sapphire Coast.”

According to ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge some 36 rescues were carried out in the district which spans from the Ezimbokodweni River at Amanzimtoti Golf Course until Crocworld just before Scottburgh. However, there were no drownings. Among the rescues was the mass rescue of a father, his two daughters and two others, who were taken to hospital.

The SCT team noticed that over this long weekend, more of the coast’s visitors were visiting and staying with and family and friends. The team commented that bed and breakfasts outside of seaviews were empty of leisure tourists, and Beach Road wasn’t as overrun with visitors as it has been in previous holiday seasons.

Romy thanked DJ Fluffy and DJ Chris for playing the tunes at Amanzimtoti Main Beach and Winklespruit Beach, the Stranddiens Team and Dolphin Bowl/Funland for entertaining Amanzimtoti beachgoers, Happy Drums for jamming the djembe drums, Aliwal Shoal Scuba for doing a dive presentation at Inyoni Rocks swimming pool and all sponsors involved who made this year’s Easter holiday program a little more special.

Promotional items such as T-shirts, caps, cooler bags, beach balls and loads of vouchers were available during the entire three-day holiday campaign, bringing smiles to children and grown ups alike. Sponsors who SCT gratefully thanked include KFC, Tiago’s, Aliwal Shoal Scuba, Happy Days, Gary’s Horses, Funland/Dolphin Bowl, Splash/Thirsty Whale, Illovo Nursery, Lords and Legends, Debonairs, Go Bananaz and Amanzimtoti Fever.

Apart from the typical Easter ‘things to do’ like egg colouring, egg hunting and egg-throwing, a wide variety of beach games were on offer including beach volleyball, beach golf, basketball, ten-pin bowling, hoola hooping, karaoke, dancing, beach flags, jumping castles and more, while Aliwal Shoal Scuba offered an dive demonstration at Inyoni Rocks.

Those interested were given the opportunity to gear-up and try out breathing below the surface. The sound of djembe drums also filled the air as Happy Drum’s Gavin Hughes and his daughter Bronwyn kept the masses entertained and set the mood.

Sapphire Coast Tourism team looks forward to planning as fun a time as was had over the Easter weekend during the July holidays.
