Amanzimtoti crime fighters aim for CCTV techno-boost

CCPO has identified the need to use a network of CCTV cameras to capture and transmit real time footage directly to a control centre

Amanzimtoti’s Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) is keen to extend its effectiveness through the use of technological innovations, including CCTV and a cellphone application.

To help the CCPO achieve its main objective to offer crime prevention services to the community and its members for a crime-free community, the CCPO has identified the need to use a network of CCTV cameras to monitor all known entry and exit routes used by criminals who target the area and to monitor identified crime hotspots.

The network of CCTV cameras will not only act as a deterrent against crime, but also capture and transmit real time footage directly to a control centre, where the footage will be monitored, properly assessed and rapidly responded to by the CCPO and its crime prevention partners.

To be effective, the control centre will be manned by skilled and trained resources on a round the clock basis.

“It goes without saying that a CCTV camera and the required equipment to operate it, is expensive to procure, install, maintain and monitor.

The budget of the CCPO allows for the procurement of only one CCTV camera every half year, which is not sufficient to monitor identified crime hotspots, let alone the many entry and exit routes used by criminals that target our community,” said CCPO chairman, Albert Swart.

“The more CCTV cameras we can install, the better equipped the CCPO and its crime prevention partners will be to prevent crime in the community.
The CCPO have assessed the crime threats and will initially require at least 12 CCTV cameras to be effective. Therefore, we request the community and CCPO members to make donations towards this project.”

Payments can be made directly into the CCPO’s bank account:
Account name: CCPO donation account
Bank: First National Bank
Account number: 62676701777
Type of account: Savings
Branch: Galleria
Branch code: 220127
Reference : CCTV donation.

The CCPO is eager to commence with the purchase of the CCTV cameras in bulk on 1 March and urges the community and its members to support this project by making donations by 28 February.

Any donations received after this date, bearing the same reference, will be used for the installation and maintenance costs of the CCTV cameras.
