Biker dies after crashing down bank on N2 south of Umkomaas

More drama followed when two vehicles collided shortly afterwards.

An afternoon bike ride turned tragic when a man in his 40s died after he lost control of his bike, collided with a barrier and went down a 20m embankment on the N2 South just past the Umkomaas off-ramp on Sunday, 28 January.

ER24 spokesman, Ineke van Huyssteen said when paramedics arrived at about 3.20pm, an off-duty provincial paramedic and fire department officials were trying to resuscitate the biker.

“ER24 took over the resuscitation but unfortunately after a little while, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead by ER24. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not yet known to our paramedics,” said Van Huyssteen.

Paramedic Leo Fourie said more drama followed when two vehicles collided shortly afterwards in the fast lane about 50m past the bike accident. Fortunately a family in the rear car with two children were uninjured.
