Life for 2016 rape of Umkomaas girl (10)

Philani was arrested within three days and made several court appearances before being sentenced.

A rapist was sentenced to life imprisonment in Scottsburgh regional court on Monday, 20 November.

On 20 March 2016, a 10-year-old girl was walking to a shop in the Umkomaas area when she was forcefully grabbed by Ngcobo Philani (25). He dragged her to nearby bushes where he raped her.

The victim reported the matter to the elders and a case of rape was opened. The docket was transferred to Umlazi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for further investigation. Philani was arrested within three days and made several court appearances before being sentenced.

“The recent sentences handed down to criminals who attack and abuse vulnerable women and children proves the FCS units in the province will ensure the culprits are locked behind bars for a long time. The team of detectives ensured the culprit in this case was brought to book for a long time,” said KZN acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
