Warner Beach pupil shares fascinating snake skin discovery

A grade 1 pupil was the centre of attention at Warner Beach Prep School’s junior campus when he brought the skin of a 2.8-metre black mamba to ‘show and tell’ on Thursday, 16 November.
Dominic Meredith said their gardener found the skin in their Widenham garden on Tuesday, 14 November. “It wasn’t show and tell at school, I just asked if I could bring it to show everyone,” said the seven-year-old.
“When our gardener found it, it was still wet and fresh and a bit smelly. I was scared because I’m quite terrified of black mambas, but I’m able to handle the skin.”
Dominic said his father did some research to come to the conclusion the massive skin did once belong to a black mamba.

“When I showed it to my class, everyone was interested and crowded around to touch it. When I showed it to the grade 3 girls, they were scared. I showed it to all the classes.
I have seen a brown house snake and a green one in our house before, but I’ve never seen one in our garden. I will keep the skin in a safe place at home and keep an eye open for the snake.”
