Men nabbed with stolen vehicle after high-speed chase

A 9mm pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered.

A high-speed chase on Tuesday, 7 November lead to the arrest of two men who were in possession of a vehicle stolen in KwaMakhutha.

Provincial Task Team and Durban Central K9 Unit members chased the two men along Dumisani Makhaye Drive at about 3.30pm.

The Toyota Corolla that was allegedly stolen in KwaMakhutha was driven facing oncoming traffic in a southern direction and crashed into two police vehicles. The men fled the scene on foot, while firing at the police and police returned fire.

The two men were arrested and a 9mm pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered.

The men and a policeman were injured in the collision but no gunshot wounds were sustained. The injured people were taken to hospital and the arrested men are under police guard.

A cellphone and wrist watch were also seized from one of the men.

They will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court to face charges of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and attempted murder.
