The Amanzimtoti SPCA often experiences problems with drainage after heavy rains, but the huge branches of a tree that fell and diminished all in their wake is an entirely new dilemma. Crushed fencing, walls and damage to electric fencing are sure to put unnecessary stress on the local shelter.

The shelter closed before noon, as all animals were moved from the low-lying kennels to ones on higher ground and staff sent home to ensure that they’d get home safely that day.

Nyati Road looked like a river from the freeway bridge, it is a wonder that all animals remained unharmed and buildings standing.

If you are able to assist the SPCA repair damages and return to normal functioning, contact the shelter on 031-904-2424/5 or visit their office at 1 Nyati Road, Athlone Park.
