Torrential rains and strong winds are pummeling Amanzimtoti, with Kingsway Road’s stormwater infrastructure under threat in Athlone Park.
Motorists are urged not to use the northernmost section of of Kingsway, before the hill down to Prospecton, above Wavecrest Road.
This section was previously retained with gabion baskets, but the gabion baskets have been wrestled free, probably owing to overloaded storwater drainage. A section of Wavecrest Road below has become impassable due to the raye of water that is flooding down, as a result.

The CBD has flooded and adjacent shops are knee deep in water.
Some schools and pre-schools have closed, urging parents to collect their children.
On Kingsway, north of Ocean View, a house is under water and paramedics have had to help residents to vacate their flooded home. The section of Kingsway, opposite Pro-Care, is almost a metre under water, and a deep furrow has cut across the road, making passing perilous for motorists in either direction.
