UPDATE: Diver who died in Umkomaas boating accident was from UK

The boat, belonging to Agulhas House, was launching at about 7.15am when a wave caught the boat and it capsized.

A diver from the United Kingdom, believed to be in his 50s, died on Wednesday morning, 4 October after the boat he was in capsized at Umkomaas Beach.

The boat, belonging to Agulhas House, was launching at about 7.15am when a wave caught the boat and it capsized. “It wasn’t even a large wave,” said spokesman for Agulhas House, Keryn van der Walt.

“All nine divers on board were wearing their lifejackets. The man was talking to the other divers in the water and then he suddenly lost consciousness. Nobody knows what happened.

The other divers started CPR on him on the rocks while he was still in the water, until the first responder arrived.”

ER24 paramedics arrived at about 8am to find VEMA paramedics already performing CPR on the man. VEMA and ER24 paramedics continued CPR for some time, while providing advanced life support interventions. Unfortunately, after some time, no vital signs returned and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was a guest of Agulhas House.
