10 security tips when selling your home

THE killing of a Chatsworth homeseller has sent shock waves through the Durban community.

It is believed the gang approached the couple at their Silverglen Road home under the pretence of viewing their property, which is currently on the market.

Northglen News shared this list of 10 security tips when selling your home: 

• Be at the gate when people arrive and message someone a picture of the vehicle and registration.

• Make sure your security company knows that your home is on the market – have a silent panic button.

• Log the names and numbers of the clients who come to view and use an app to check the correct number.

• Where possible stick to daytime viewing and make sure you are not alone on the property.

• Educate your employees and children with regards to viewing instructions.

• Don’t leave keys and remotes lying around.

• Be aware of groups that arrive at a viewing and distract you by splitting up and going in different directions.

• Make sure that you ask the correct qualifying questions to confirm that the buyer is legitimate.

• Appoint an estate agency to deal with it who will handle all viewings through your property.

• Make sure the agent gives them a card before they are allowed in.
